I Presepi di Cracovia
Written by admin on 16 December, 2008 – 9:56 am -I recently visited an exhibition of cribs at the Museo Nazionale della Montagna, Turin. These nativity scenes or Kraków szopka, which are quite different from the ones we have come to expect in Western Europe, are on loan from the city of Krakow, Poland.

Contemporary and historical figures can usually be found on the lower floor of these highly ornate structures, with the Holy Family on the second floor.
In the Galleria Subalpina, near Piazza Castello, there is a special szopka dedicated to Turin to mark this special occasion. It incorporates symbols of the city (such as Porta Nuova station and La Mole Antonelliana).

This special Szopka pays tribute to Turin, including Porta Nuova station
I cannot recommend this exhibition enough. As an added bonus there are spectacular views of Turin and the surrounding Alps from the museum’s rooftop terrace. Choose good weather for your visit.

The view from the Museo della Montagna is one of the best in Turin. I will go again soon. With an ‘Abbonomento Musei Torino Piemonte’ (http://www.abbonamentomusei.it) for €45 which lasts 12 months you can visit most of Piedmont’s museums for free - time and time again. This year they also give you 3 free visits to events at La Triennale di Milano. There is also the Torino+Piemonte card for visitors starting at €19 for 2 days and up to €35 for 7 days. Visit http://www.turismotorino.org for more details.
