Word of the Week
Written by admin on 4 January, 2009 – 10:17 am -This week I have chosen one of the courses I had for San Silvestro (New Year’s Eve) whilst in Lucca, Tuscany (more about my visit in a later post):
cinghiale m. (pl. cinghiali)
wild boar / wild pig
I always get this word confused with cigno (swan) and cicogna (stork). Hopefully now I have solved my problem!

Amusing coincidence with Romke/FrogSmoke stopping blogging for (maybe) hunting wild boar in La Fraisse.

I won’t be hunting wild boar myelf - but maybe I’ll start hunting for truffles! I think there could be good money in it, and Alba’s very close by.

Did you not take a photo of the “cinghiale” before you devoured it? Did they roast it over a spit in the “time honoured” tradition?

Unfortunately I didn’t take many photos of the food not wanting to appear like a tourist. Possibly my accent gave me away though! However, On a different occasion I took a nice photo of one of Lucca’s best dishes – Zuppa Toscana. I had never tasted it before. It was delicious and will appear in the Lucca part of the new ‘Experience’ section soon.

You said the magic words “white truffles” and instantly I smelled their scent !
