A Step Back in Time

This year I spent my annual holiday back in Great Britain, visiting my parents. What a shock I was in for. I thought I would be escaping the Italians for a couple of weeks. Not so. I found that the Romans are still keeping things under control!
Well, maybe that’s not strictly true. The Roman I met was in charge of… afternoon tea! My parents had surprised my wife and I with a special canal cruise in the historic Roman city of Chester. However, I think I let myself down. I had a coffee. I guess the Italian lifestyle may have rubbed off on me slightly.
Whilst we cruised slowly along the canal the soldier explained the various points of interest en-route and quizzed us on several historic objects that were passed around for inspection. He continually cracked jokes and spoke in a strong northern accent so I’m not sure if he was an authentic Italian.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience, I recommend it to anyone who happens to be in the area.

A wonderful trip. And the weather was bright and sunny, just like Italy but without the heat.
