Pour Taste Observe Smell Taste

Last weekend I went to the wine fair Vinitaly. Held every year in Verona it’s a 600 km round-trip for me so it’s not something I take lightly. Fortunately my brother-in-law (a sommeilier) organised the day and helped me discover the wines of Sicily, Sardinia, Trentino-Alto Adige and Lombardy.
For those interested here is a list of the wines we sampled:
SICILY
- Duca Enrico 2006
- Marsala Florio Semisecco
- Cometa 2008
- Malvasia delle Lipari
- Passito di Pantelleria
SARDINIA
Azienda Vinicola Contini Attilio
- Nuragus di Cagliari
- Antigua – Monica di Sardegna / Carignano del sulcis
- Cannonau di Sardegna
- Monica
- Monica passito (insistito)
TRENTINO-ALTO ADIGE
- Pinot nero riserva 2007
- Pinot Grigio 2008
- Gewurz Traminer
- Lagrein 2008
- Schiava 2008
LOMBARDY
- Ronco del Picchio – Sforzato di Valtellina 2006
- Valtelina Superiore 2006
After a thoroughly enjoyable day and all the degustazioni probably my favourite wine was the Marsala Florio Semisecco – it’s quite similar to sherry. Has anybody tried it or any of the other wines above?
I would love to hear from anybody who has visited Vinitaly and what they thought of it.
Now enjoy the photo gallery – I particularly liked the pasta car!

Lucky you Mike. Sounds like a really great day out. Shall make a note and see if they sell any of those wines at Sainsburys.

Ciao Mike, it sounds like a very nice day.
Gewurz Traminer is our fave white wine. We like also Passito di Pantelleria and Malvasia, they are great!
