Written by admin on 23 April, 2010 – 10:24 pm -

The Bersaglieri are best known for their fast jog when on parade but did you know they also have a cycling division? I saw them in action last weekend during the opening of the Museo della bicicletta in Bra (Piedmont). The Pattuglia Bersaglieri Ciclisti are from near Turin and frequently are asked to partake in local ceremonies.

Written by admin on 20 March, 2010 – 6:17 pm -

Vinitaly – the largest wine exhibition in the world.

I attended for the first time last year with my brother-in-law, a sommelier, and was able to get an excellent insight into the world of the vine. The highlight was a special wine tasting celebrating 150 years of Gaja which I can only describe as indescribable.

Milan Evolves

Written by admin on 31 August, 2009 – 7:07 am -

Milan is currently hosting an exhibition dedicated to Charles Darwin exactly 200 years after the birth of this great scientist and 150 years after the publication of On the Origin of Species. Having already proved popular in New York, Boston, Toronto, London, São Paul, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Aukland, Lisbon and Rome, Darwin 1809-2009weaves together the history, narrative and scientific analysis of nature with the philosophy of science and experimental research” and the Italian version provides previously unseen material, not included in the first American edition.

Learn about the young Darwin, his fascination with beetles, his 5 year voyage around the world aboard The Beagle. Read copies of his notes, visit a reconstruction of his study, and even see a live iguana and poisonous tree frogs.

Speaking from personal experience the exhibition is definitely worth a visit. However, as there is a vast amount of information to be absorbed, be prepared for a lot of reading. I spent over 3 hours on this journey of discovery.

After Milan the exhibitions moves to the Castello Normanno-Svevo in Bari where it will run from November until March of next year.

A couple of weeks ago my aunt and uncle came to Turin (Piedmont). It was their first time here and they had no idea what to expect. They were pleasantly surprised by the baroque architecture of many of the palazzi and the overall elegance of the city. Combining culture, coffee and ice cream: that was our goal. You’re invited to retrace our footsteps on this short tour. Enjoy with us the delights of Italy’s first capital.

I Presepi di Cracovia

Written by admin on 16 December, 2008 – 9:56 am -

I recently visited an exhibition of cribs at the Museo Nazionale della Montagna, Turin. These nativity scenes or Kraków szopka, which are quite different from the ones we have come to expect in Western Europe, are on loan from the city of Krakow, Poland.
